EcoAthletes Champions and longtime pro soccer stars Jasmyne “Jas” Spencer and Savannah “Sav” McCaskill used their complementary skills to great effect on the pitch when they played together with Angel City FC in the NWSL in 2022-23: Jas, a 12 year NWSL vet who now plays with Vancouver Rise FC in the new and exciting Northern Super League, brings the jazz — her otherworldly calmness under pressure allows her to improvise to keep possession of the ball in seemingly impossible spots and ultimately make the pass to set up a teammate or get off her own shot. Sav, now in her eighth season in the NWSL and second with San Diego Wave FC, is, well, savvy: the maestra, the point guard who directs the attack and makes everyone a better player.
Now, the dynamic duo is teaming up to take their complementary off-the-pitch talents — Jas’ eco-preneurship (check out Jas It Up, her sustainable lifestyle brand) and Sav’s analytical savviness — and passions to take on a stalwart opponent, environmental illiteracy, with their new nonprofit, Green Horizons Collective. Its mission is to “equip future generations with the knowledge and skills needed to champion environmental stewardship in their communities and beyond”.
In today’s fast-paced, upbeat GreenSportsPod, Jas and Sav share the Green Horizons Collective backstory and highlight an exciting pilot program that will serve as an early “prove point” of the small organization’s BIG vision.
